A Thousand Boy Kisses - Tillie Cole
It's a bittersweet romantic love story between Rune Kristiansen and Poppy Litchfield.
Rune, a Norwegian boy whose family moved to Georgia from Oslo when he was five. Poppy his neighbor, met the Viking boy on his very first day at Georgia and they became friends. The story is told at different stages of their life.
At age 9 Poppy's Mamaw (grandmother) was very sick and she left home for heaven. Before she left, she gave an adventure for Poppy. She gave a jar filled with thousand pink hearts to Poppy to record all the boy kisses that will make her heart almost burst, the ones that are most special to remember when old and the ones that will make her smile when she remembers them in her mind. Of course the first kiss is:
Kiss1
With my Rune.
In the blossom grove.
My heart almost burst.
At age 15 they were separated because of Rune's father's work. They talked everyday for two months and all of a sudden there was no news about Poppy. She just vanished from his life for two years. At age 17 they met again and the story continues.
I like author's (Tillie Cole) way of telling the story. Each chapter has a title like 'Sand Dunes and Salty Tears', 'Soaring Wings and Fading Stars', 'Moonbeam Hearts and Sunshine Smiles' etc.
Overall I enjoyed reading this book. I was happy as well as sad once I finished this book.
💖Quotes💖
Poppy: "There's nothing to do, Rune. Nothing to do but weather the storm."
'It showed that love was simply the tenacity to make sure that the other half of your heart knew he, or she, was adored in every way. In every minute of every day. That love was tenderness in it's purest form.'
Mr.Litchfield: "But you two have always been like magnets, drawn together by some unknown force. Poppy's mamaw said that you were both thrust together for a greater meaning. One we would never know until it presented itself. She said that great loves were always destined to be together for some great reason."
'As special as special can be.'
